Filters on social media aren’t just harmless fun – they’ve become a crutch and a quiet confession. And yes, I’m going to say the quiet part out loud: people lean on filters when don’t like what they see in the mirror. It stings, but it’s true. We can pretend it’s “aesthetic” or “just for fun,” but at the end of the day, filters exist because we’ve normalized hiding our real faces. If that feels uncomfortable, maybe that’s exactly why it needs to be said.
Just for the record, when an influencer leans on filters, I take it as a sign that what I’m seeing isn’t the real thing. It screams red flag fraud.
Well, you know.
