After experiencing sexual assault, it’s natural to search for reasons – but the truth is that you may never find a “why” that makes sense. Sexual assault is not a rational act. It happens because someone chose to ignore consent, empathy, and basic human respect. Their actions were about power and control, not about anything you did or didn’t do. You could not have changed their decision, because the responsibility was never yours.
What is within your control is your healing. Awareness and recovery are essential. Instead of trying to rationalize an experience that was never rational, it is far more constructive to acknowledge the reality of sexual violence, recognize its deep impact, and focus on rebuilding your sense of safety, dignity, and inner well-being.
Will it be easy? No. But it is the healthiest way to live your life moving forward. Sending sexual assault survivors hope and healing.
-The reason.
