“My Secret Life in Hell – The Side of the NBA No One Talks About: Jan-Michael van Breda Kolff & Spencer Gloger & Mark Fulton.”

Was it merely a coincidental that Jan-Michael, an individual I had neither met nor previously known of, initiated contact with me in 2016? No, it was not.

Jan-Michael is the grandson of a well-known figure in basketball history, a man who coached at Princeton University and later for the Los Angeles Lakers. For accuracy’s sake, Spencer Gloger did in fact play basketball at Princeton, which made the timing feel intentional rather than random. Otherwise, any connection would been through Mark Fulton and the Los Angeles Lakers.

It felt as though he assumed I would not notice the connections, and that the communication was meant to divert my attention from the larger truth.

I chose to remain outwardly unaware, as the pattern of harassment I had already experienced was extensive and deeply unsettling. There are no coincidences in situations like this, and the circumstances only reinforced how complex and far-reaching the harassment had become.

If Jan-Michael had been honest from the beginning, the situation could have unfolded very differently. But he chose not to tell the truth.

Moments like this reveal just how much certain men underestimate women’s awareness and discernment.
