Sexual assault remains a deeply pervasive issue. Current estimates indicate that one in four women will experience sexual assault at some point in their lives. To illustrate the magnitude of this statistic, imagine sitting at a dinner table with three close friends – statistically, one of the four will have been subjected to such a violation.
I share the statistic that one in four women will experience sexual assault because awareness is essential. I want people to be mindful of their surroundings and to recognize that the likelihood of being affected is far higher than many assume. I want mothers and fathers to take this issue seriously, and I want our society to evolve in ways that encourage women to support and uplift each other. Meaningful change is necessary if we are to create a world in which women can live with a greater safety and solidarity. Let that be understood.
